February 2024

We’re into the last throes of Winter with so many beautiful signs of the coming Spring to lift the spirits! Input at the last work party has really paid off with much more growing space now almost ready to take plants for this year’s growing season and the small propagation polytunnel up and ready for sowing seeds.

It’s certainly the time of year for sowing seeds of ideas and plans which has been taking place amongst the working circles. 2024 is shaping up well for the land and for the organisation as a whole but as of yet there are not many definite dates for diaries. As an overview the year is looking like this:
- Work parties every month (next one Saturday Feb 24th, 10-3. Shared lunch as always)
- Tour of Tregovenek and Pentiddy for the Land Workers Alliance – March 16th
- Sociocracy training – Spring
- Introductory willow weaving workshop with Jess – April/May
- Next steps meeting for all circles and volunteers – April
- Bioblitz with the University of Plymouth – May
- Public event – picnic and Summer fun! – June
- Public tours of Tregovenek and Pentiddy – July, August and September
- No-dig gardening workshop with Farm Zero Carbon – to be decided
There are also rumours of some Cornish Language lessons and further fun with the children of Pensilva Primary School and hopefully St Cleer School too.

The finance circle are continuing to work up various funding applications to include progressing work in the community garden as well as the feasibility studies and project co-ordinator role.
There’s a lot of talk about finding a grower to take on the vegetable production and other possible enterprises in the field. It feels like slow progress at the moment but I was really heartened and re-inspired after watching this short video from 4 Acre Farm. It’s amazing what can be done in such a short space of time when you have the right people on board! Have a look at their website and click on the 8 months no dig video:
On a completely different note (clever pun intended!), Clare who has become a regular at our work parties following a lengthy journey of recovery from long Covid, is making a beautiful offering to the local community which I wanted to share with you all. Please pass on to anyone you feel would benefit from her care and inspiration.

As with any community organisation there is so much going on behind the scenes which is at times deeply challenging. Gratitude to all those who are continuing Tregovenek’s attempt to break new ground in creating a more beautiful world. One step at a time with plenty of rests for drinking tea….

We hope to see a good turn-out on Saturday for another of Tregovenek’s beautiful work parties 🙂
