November Newsletter
Dear Friends
Here is your next instalment of life at Tregovenek!
It’s been another busy few weeks! Lots of workshops happening and more progress in the garden, and lots of planning behind the scenes. We also had the beautiful surprise of waking up to a wonderful winter wonderland, and so took a cheeky snow day ! and we survived storm Bert!
You know what to do, grab a cuppa and read on…
As always, thank you to you all for your ongoing support in making Tregovenek into the beautiful community space we know is possible.
The Tregovenek Team xx |

Introduction to Permaculture – One day course with Klaudia Van Gool
We had a wonderful day, hosted at Pentiddy Woods, to learn all about Permaculture!
We were in good hands with Klaudia Van Gool, who brought to life all of the amazing permaculture designs around us which have been embedded into Tregovenek and Pentiddy landscapes, as well as some practical elements including processing Dandelion roots ready for roasting and making delicious dandelion coffee, and some classroom time to learn the theory.
Thank you Klaudia for a special day! If you are interested in learning more about Permaculture, Klaudia runs permaculture design certificate courses and many other workshops, with new dates just released for 2025. Click here to view. |

Wormery/Vermicomposting Workshop with Ben Bryant from Sustainable South Hams and Devon Community Composting Network and Westcountry Rivers Trust #FarmNetZero Campaign. |
|
Another sell out event! In early November, we ran a second workshop on all things vermi-composting in collaboration with Westcountry Rivers Trust and Ben Bryant from Sustainable South Hams and Devon Community Composting Network.
Ben took us on an adventure of learning all about the life of worms, how incredible they are for our soils and how to set up various different wormeries depending on available space and budget, and how best to look after them.
As part of the workshop we set up Tregovenek’s first wormery in a big blue bath and we are now the very proud owners of our first wriggly livestock!
Thank you to Westcountry Rivers Trust for funding the workshop as part of their #FarmNetZero campaign, and to Ben for such an informative and inspiring afternoon! |

CCAN Climate Cafe Listening Circle Facilitator Training
Thank you so much to Katherine and Fi from the Cornwall Climate Action Network, who came to teach us how to facilitate Climate Cafe Listening Circles in October.
Many Tregovenek folk attended as well as many others, with a view to holding these spaces around Cornwall for our communities.
These circles are such important spaces for people to share their worries and grief for the world in order to process their emotions around it, witnessing and being witnessed and supported, sharing the grief in a group setting is very healing and builds resilience in a rapidly changing world. A very powerful experience!
We look forward to starting our work early in the new year to start hosting these sessions. If you’d like to learn more or attend a listening circle, further details can be found here. |

Progress in our Community Garden |

Compost toilet building has started!
@Charleythewilds who is a founder of Hold Fast Wood School has very generously donated her time to the project to design a bespoke compost toilet for our community garden – we are so lucky and so grateful, thank you Charley!
See the design below which will be an accessible toilet with a lean-to urinal. Our very own Stu is doing the build for us, helped by our dedicated volunteers along the way! So exciting! |

Pallet Wood Furniture
Two of our wonderful members, Annabel and John have organised a pallet furniture making workshop on 18th December for our volunteers to make some nice seating to go around the fire pit.
If anyone has some nice jazzy garden paints left over in the shed that they would like to donate – these would be gratefully received for our signage and furniture creations!
If you’re interested in learning how to make these chairs in a workshop here at Tregovenek, let us know by emailing outreach@tregovenek.org.uk and we will be back in contact in the new year. |

Further garden progress
The accessible pathways, and other hard landscaping is now pretty much finished thanks to our volunteers coming rain, shine and snow!
In addition, with big thanks to Fiona we have planted bulbs everywhere for spring colour, including pots in the centre circle and around the barn areas. |
|
Last week we put the potting shed together, we just now need to get the roof on! |
|
 |
|
We have Trees! We have received some of our trees from the Woodland Trust, with more to arrive in March ready for Pensilva Primary school to help us plant in the hedgerow where the spruce were felled, to increase native biodiversity and habitat for wildlife. |
