Welcome to our July
Newsletter!
So much exciting news to update
you on!
It has been a
very busy few months at Tregovenek.
Harnessing the light and energy of midsummer, we have been full
steam ahead on developing plans and implementation on the ground so
that Tregovenek can be a useable space for the community by the end
of the summer. Workshops, courses, garden volunteering, enterprise
and treatments…all on the cards for August through to November this
year. So much abundance building here! Below is a breakdown of what
there is to look forward to.
As always, thank you to you all for your ongoing support in
making Tregovenek into the beautiful community space we know is
possible.
The Tregovenek Team xx

Progress in our Community
Garden
|
|
 |
We are itching to get going with the garden. While we wait for
the crowdfunder to get going to pay for the main build, we have
been busy preparing the space…
Current progress includes:
We have marked out where our circle and future potential
community building will be, and started clearing the remaining
rubbish and nettles and brambles so we have a blank canvas to work
with. The continues fight with the bindweed goes on! A generous
offer of compost means we can create some of the surrounding beds
over the coming weeks and start to finalise the design and location
of the compost loo and prep the space for a temporary yurt.
We have now started weekly work parties on Fridays, 9am to 12pm
to keep the momentum over the summer during the implementation
phase of the garden. If you are interested in attending, please
email Hayley@tregovenek.org.uk to
be added to a WhatsApp group.
Priorities over the coming weeks will be:
-
Clearing vegetation and marking out
the pathways and area for the compost loo.
-
Planting seeds for veg and herbs to
plant out later in the season.
-
Laying cardboard down to suppress
weeds and covering with fresh compost to create the beds
-
Stone walling to build the wall around
the central circle gathering space
-
Building the most luxurious compost
toilet you’ve ever seen.

Garden ‘Wants’
List
This will be a regular feature in our newsletter, in the
interest of recycling and because life is always easier when we
share and help each other out. There will always be resources we
need that you might be able to help us with, and vice versa. In
future, once we are set up a bit more, we will also post a ‘Haves’
list for items people might want to take away in reciprocity.
Currently we are looking for a few resources to help us
implement the garden. If you can help with any of these please get
in touch. Thank you!
-
Plastic free cardboard for lining under growing
beds
-
Empty animal feeds sacks or
similar.
-
6-7m Yurt – We are on the look out – if you see
any adverts for
second hand – please let us
know.
-
Pallets
-
Are there any artists out there that would like
to mock up an
impression of our garden
vision?
Please send any links through to hayley@tregovenek.org.uk

A big
thank you for attending our Bioblitz Event – We had a
ball!
|
|
 |
 |
We had a wonderful day on 22 June for our Bioblitz event,
followed by a garden work party afternoon and celebrating the
Summer Solstice.
50+ wonderful people came to our Bioblitz in
the morning to help us identify all the resident birds, insects,
plants, and mammals at Tregovenek. Visitors of all ages enjoyed the
meadow and learned about our native flora and fauna before having a
wonderful picnic together in the sunshine. Thank you all for coming
and making it such a special day!
|
|
It’s always great to receive such wonderful
feedback from our visitors too..
|
|
|
|
We also made over £100 from our plant and
produce sale – thank you!
|
|
 |
Our work party in the afternoon was extremely
productive for a spruce up of the garden, after some initial
landscaping work had been completed. More tip runs, planting of
more glorious vegetables and a tidy up of the polytunnel and
weeding. So wonderful to garden together in a group and see the
space transform in a short time with awesome team effort!
|
|
 |
Our smaller Summer Solstice Ceremony in the
evening was a magical event hosted by our new members Penny and
Annabel with an incredible meal provided by Vicki and Fiona. A
gratitude and vision building ceremony and intention setting for
the wonders of a future Tregovenek community space, shared food and
song and much love shared in community around the fire. Many
exciting visions set for the future…

Meet
our Community Builders!
|
|
 |
We are delighted to confirm that following receipt of our
National Lottery award from The National Lottery Community Fund,
the CBS Board have now found our Community Builder!
In fact we have contracted two, as the scope of the role is so
broad ranging! Hayley and Jemma will each be working with
Tregovenek 1.5 days per week in addition to their extensive
volunteer contribution, between now and the end of the year.
Together they bring the perfect mix of skills and experience
needed for this role.
They will be working with circles with their new “Community
Builder” hat on in the coming weeks and getting involved in new
areas of work to support Tregovenek’s working circles and progress
us towards our vision.
Our ‘Next Steps’ plan has received consent from our members, and
will be implemented by Jemma and Hayley and the CBS Board in
collaboration with the circles over the next six months.
