Sociocratic structure
We are using a model called Sociocracy within the governance structure and meetings at Tregovenek. The image below shows the current proposal for this structure.
This model uses working groups or ‘circles’ each of which has its own domain and mandate.
This means each circle has a set of responsibilities and can make decisions within limitations (set out in the mandate) without having to keep referring to everyone else in the organisation.
This speeds up decision making processes and means each individual can find a place within the structure where they can feel comfortable and use their skills to the full.
All decisions made within these circles are also guided by the mission and vision and the ways of working. In this way the Organisations principles and guiding ethos is enshrined in every aspect and element.
Click on any of the circles below to see more information about it’s purpose.

Members
As a Community Benefit Society we are made up of members. Each member has a vote and can stand for election as a Director.
The Kernel Circle is where a representative from each circle meets monthly. This is where information is shared between circles.
The Heartholders Circle supports the work of Tregovenek and its people in accordance with the vision, values and principles, as the elders/guardians.
The Ways of Working Circle helps practically apply the values and principles in the ways that people work together in Tregovenek.
The CBS Board have responsibility for Tregovenek meeting its legal requirements as a registered Community Benefit Society. They ensure the long term success of Tregovenek by making decisions in the interests of the members and are the formal custodians of the assets of the CBS and safeguard the enterprise for the future. Members of this circle are either elected from the membership at the Annual General Meeting or Co-opted due to their specialist skills and knowledge.
The Finance Circle ensure that the finances are sustainable and managed well to support the overall vision of Tregovenek, in line with the values and principles.
The Garden Circle are responsible for the design, maintenance and implementation of the community garden. They work closely with the Garden Steward.
We also use sociocracy in our meetings. This allows every voice to be heard and with a few simple tools ensures meetings are efficient and enjoyable too.
Every meeting is started by lighting the childrens fire reminding us that the choices we make effect the generations to come. We then have a simple few moments of grounding to allow everyone to settle and then a round of gratitudes and check-ins.
Within everything we do we have endeavoured to build in a culture of self care and regenerative practices.
