We hope you are well.

We have been busy in the Tregovenek community garden, lots of changes occurring! We will send a more in depth update shortly, but we wanted to update you promptly that we will be felling the large Spruce trees at the north end of the garden between 16-19 September.

This will be under a felling licence with a professional tree surgeon to remove dead and dying and non-native spruce trees along the northern bank of Tregovenek Community Garden.

Some of these trees are diseased and dying and are deemed unsafe. We have also had advice that this species is not particularly useful habitat for local wildlife or other tree species due to blocking out light and being non native.

We therefore plan to replant this short section with a lovely native hedgerow including beech, hawthorn, hazel and holly trees. It will also shed light on the existing native trees underneath which are struggling to grow in the dark!

We plan to make the tree planting an open event including the local primary school and families in the new year. Look out for event dates over the winter!

We will use the timber where possible by milling on site and storing in the barns for future projects, so nothing will be wasted. The brash will be chipped for woodchip to feed the soil in the garden and other areas on site.
